CoreTemp 1.0 RC4 crashes Windows 8 Pro
CoreTemp 1.0 RC4 crashes Windows 8 Pro
Hey guys,
So I've recently upgraded to Windows 8 Pro and also downloaded CoreTemp 1.0 RC4. According to your website it claims to be compatible with Windows 8.
I tried executing the application normally and then also with Administrative Privileges but this is what happens:
- The app gets executed by myself (double-click).
- The system changes the cursor to the wait cursor for a brief 3-4 second period.
- Windows restarts.
Once Windows has restarted, the app is not running. I tried executing it again but the above happens constantly. Its definitely not my hardware as I was using CoreTemp RC3 on Windows 7 on this exact same hardware. Its also worth noting that at the point when the system restarts, there is no warning. It just shows the grey "Restarting..." screen.

Re: CoreTemp 1.0 RC4 crashes Windows 8 Pro
I have very similar symptoms. RC4 worked fine in windows 8 with old bios. When I reinstalled windows 8 with UEFI it immediately crashes when I try to run the latest version of coretemp 1.0 RC4. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear that you also have this problem, but good to finally find someone who can help me get rid of it.
Does Win8 crash and reboot (BSOD)? Or does Core Temp just crash?
If it's the former, I'll contact you via PM tomorrow with the info.

Windows crashes and reboots. If I set core temp to start automatically It will crash/reboot until I remove it in safe mode. The Coolest wrote:Sorry to hear that you also have this problem, but good to finally find someone who can help me get rid of it.

Good news, the issue has been found and solved.
Next version (after RC5) should bring the fix to everyone.

Re: CoreTemp 1.0 RC4 crashes Windows 8 Pro
well i too have bought the dreaded Windows 8 Pro, but i had no problems at all running CoreTemp 1.0 RC4,, perhaps because it was already installed on my Windows 7 Home Premium on a separate drive and did not get wiped during the upgrade?i linked http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/to a friend however and noticed CoreTemp 1.0 RC5 so naturally i downloaded and installed as i am super happy with CoreTemp 1.0 RC4.the very next morning my desktop freezes on the logon screen, during a complete new installation i found that it is CoreTemp 1.0 RC5 that is the cause.i deleted my CoreTemp 1.0 RC4 and can not run CoreTemp 1.0 RC5 and really want to, heeh and i was just getting to like Windows 8

Re: CoreTemp 1.0 RC4 crashes Windows 8 Pro
I had one hell of a time with the core temp update and Windows 8... when I finally got around to upgrading CT windows started acting funny and I was getting errors, I decided to restart my machine and BLAM! the computer wouldn't even go to the first windows loading screen my monitor was blank and nothing would load... I didn't think it was core temp I thought it was a virus or something so I had to reinstall my whole system again and after 4 hours of installing and doing all my tweaks again I loaded CT and BLAM! it happened again... this time thankfully I was able to get into the safe mode (or whatever they are calling the F8 boot in windows 8 these days) and back up the system to when I installed my antivirus... made me vary angry that a little app like this could bring a whole OS to its knees... All I want is the highest core temp of my 8 core CPU and the speed its running in my system tray I don't give a hoot about any of the other things do you have the old versions that work on Windows 8? Its should I ran CT for months without an issue and I would go to another program but Speed fan is retarded and the others are overpriced... when will your fix be out? (also I wonder how many systems you crashed like mine)

Do you have a laptop or desktop PC?
If a laptop, what brand and model?
Is a desktop, what motherboard brand and model?
Also, what exact version of Windows 8 - Pro, Enterprise/etc? 32-bit or 64-bit OS?
Re: CoreTemp 1.0 RC4 crashes Windows 8 Pro
I am having the same problem as the OP. What can I do?
