Core Temp crashes/shuts down my AMD rig thread #1
Ok, since this issue is long gone I guess it's time to unstick this sticky and let it drop off the face of the first page.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As I've been getting an increasing amount of emails from people who are having problems with Core Temp and they're computers I decided to see if I can find some commonality between the systems as I have yet to find one from the scattered emails/posts across different forums.
What I want to ask is simple:
Post your
CPU and CPU speed settings (HTTxMultiplier)
Motherboard, chipset and driver version
Video card(s) and driver version
Memory and speed settings
OS and Service pack version
Other things you may think could be important that I have not listed

While monitoring my temps a moment ago with coretemp the system shut down within a few minutes after starting v.95. The system had been stable otherwise. Don't know the exact cause for sure but thought I should report. Temps were not out of the ordinary.

The shut down is not immediate, my computer may be on for hours. Occurs anytime though, idle to full load, any application.
I've also been having this problem with speedfan 4.32 and CPUz 1.39.

Total shutdown on load or idle (random and unpredictable).
Tried CoreTemp with Logging Enabled and Disabled.
Experimented with Logging Interval Settings, from highest possible to lowest possible.
System hardware configuration:
AMD Opteron 170 @ 2.800GHz (280 x 10)
Thermalright Ultra 120 + Thermaltake 120mm fan
Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe, BIOS 1303 (nForce4 SLI X16)
2 x 1GB Patriot PC3200LLK (2.5-4-4-6-1T)
eVGA eGeForce 8800 GTS KO (ACS3 Edition) (Driver V.97.94)
WD Caviar SE WD2500KS 250GB; WD WD800JS 80GB
Thermaltake ToughPower 750W
WinXP Home SP2
Typical idle temps: 33-34 degs C (Core 0-Core 1)
Typical max load temps: 52-52 degs C (Core 0-Core 1)
I hope for a fix. This is a great monitoring program.

Attempting to start Core Temp 0.94 or 0.95 causes the system to stutter for a few seconds, followed by a BSOD. It does not appear to be related to any of the software I am running, including background services (I have stopped any non-essential Windows services, and closed SmartGuardian--the monitoring utility included with my motherboard--prior to running Core Temp).
You can see my specs in my sig. Additional system info:
HT = 300x3
CPU vcore = 1.34v
HT voltage = 1.34v
SB PCIE voltage = 1.85v
NB analog voltage = 1.47v
NB core voltage = 1.47v
RAM voltage = 2.72v
XP Pro SP2 (kernel 5.1.2600.2180)
Catalyst 6.12 (X1950Pro apparently still does not agree with 7.x)
Creative driver version 5.12.8.1164 for Audigy series.
Using a PS/2 keyboard and a USB wireless mouse.
I don't remember the exact message associated with the BSODs, but if you need me to, I can intentionally cause one or two (
) so that I can provide the exact STOP message.

PowerColor x1950pro - catalyst 7.4
2GB of Patriot Dual channel @200mhz
XP PRO SP2
Here's something that I found interesting -
I also run W2K on the same system. CoreTemp v.95 works fine on it.
v.94 works on the XP Pro. Attempting to start v.95 on XP Pro gives an immediate BSOD, and restarts the computer. I'll post a picture of the error as soon as I get one.
Also, I seem to be getting a 10c difference between the v.94 xp, and the v.95 w2k readings.
It would be interesting to know if someone else has the same experience with w2k.
Hope this helps!
- Great little utility!

Corsair XMS Twinx2048-3200c2 @ 2.5-3-3-6 1T (194MHz) or default

Random shutdown idling or not.
Also, it does not matter if I am overclocked or not crashes happen no matter what CPU and RAM are at.
I just tried Coretemeter and crahsed on that so maybe it is something to do wih a recent Windows update?

AM2 X2 4600+ EE not overclocked while tested coretemp!

X1950pro Driver 7-4 x64

XP pro x64 SP2
The system is stable, works for hours with dual prime95 tests until i stopped it and saind: it's stable!
the temperature reading of second core seems to be wrong for me, as it should be the same temperature as the first core, when both cores are idle or at full load (prime95).

Looks like all the email regarding this issue comes from systems running AMD.
I have Core Temp 0.95 running fine on Intel E6600 on Intel Badax2. Temp Logging is on and Overheat Warning is Enabled. Core temperatures are always within 1 or 2 degrees of each other. System has never shutdown or had Core Temp Application quit.
Hope all this helps. This is a great little program.
Thnx for all the work.

work machine:
x2 3800+ @ 250x10
ABIT KN9 Ultra (nforce 4 ultra, socket 939)
nvidia 7600gt
3GB random value ram @ 200mhz 2T

opteron 165 @ 334x9
ABIT AN8 Ultra (nforce 4 ultra, socket 939)
8800GTS
2GB UCCC ram @ 250mhz 1T
XP PRO SP2
Coretemp cuts power to both machines randomly, similar problem with speedfan - I stopped using both temporarily.
