Core Temp crashes to black screen in Windows 11
Hello,
Been using Core Temp to monitor CPU temps for the better part of a decade. I have a Thinkpad T14 Gen 2 AMD laptop that was running Windows 10 and Core Temp without issue. Last week, I updated to Windows 11, and launched Core Temp -- instant Windows black screen with the sad emoji. Uninstalled Core Temp and reinstalled, same result. It appears the app has a conflict with Windows 11 and my machine configuration.
Anyone else experiencing this, or am I a fringe case?

Re: Core Temp crashes to black screen in Windows 11
No dump file is created. The event viewer just shows a critical error, but there is no information. It's a black screen, total system failure, but no evidence as to what causes it.
My issue is identical to this one: viewtopic.php?t=5835

Can you please export this error (right click on it and Save). Also select display information in English.
Zip it and attach it to your post.
The behavior may be the same, but the reason is most likely different, as the previous problem was fixed a long long time ago.

I'm attaching all errors/critical errors I see after the crash occurs, in the format you requested. Let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Just want to bump this. Any confirmation of the issue? Anything else I can do/report to speed up work toward a fix?

Re: Core Temp crashes to black screen in Windows 11
Not yet. It looks like a bug in the driver.
I'm a bit busy with RL and work, so have had no time to look into it yet.
Sadly, with a driver issue, debugging becomes a bit tricky, and tedious. And I don't have a machine on which this problem reproduces to debug it on one of my systems.

Re: Core Temp crashes to black screen in Windows 11
I've reproduced this on a Thinkpad P14S (gen 2 amd) and have a workaround. It occurs under these conditions:
- AMD virtualization extensions enabled in BIOS.
- "Enhanced Windows Biometric Security" enabled in BIOS (same place as the above - Security -> Virtualization menu).
- Hyper-V role enabled in Windows 11 (no idea about Windows 10).
If ALL of the above are met you'll get a hard reset as soon as the Core Temp process is started. Or in my case as soon as logging in as I had Core Temp set to autostart.
Easiest fix is to just disable "Enhanced Windows Biometric Security", as who the hell knows what that does anyway.
Thanks to the author for such a useful app!

Re: Core Temp crashes to black screen in Windows 11
I can confirm the issue is resolved by simply disabling Hyper-V in Windows (I'm not currently using it), but I'm sure also disabling the Enhanced Biometric Security setting would also work. Thanks for the workaround, it's nice to actually be able to use the app again. Hopefully there can be a proper fix in the pipeline.

Re: Core Temp crashes to black screen in Windows 11
I have a P15v Gen 3 (AMD) & encountered a similar issue after doing an in-place upgrade to Windows 11 22H2 from Windows 10 22H2.
Version of Coretemp used is 1.18 (32 bit)
The computer can boot to the Windows log-in screen but it crashes with a SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION BSOD after one log in to Windows.
ALSysIO64.sys fails to load.
Disabling "Enhanced Windows Biometric Security" in the BIOS still works as a workaround.

Guys, when your machine crashes with a blue screen, Windows usually creates a minidump file.
Can you please send it to me, it could help me find the problem.

Re: Core Temp crashes to black screen in Windows 11
I dug up the machine that originally had this issue, and again reproduced it by having the Hyper-V role installed and the enhanced security thing enabled in the BIOS (see my original post for details).
Tried the new build (1.19.4) and it does indeed fix the issue.
As requested, here's the DebugView output, dump, and a screenshot.

Re: Core Temp crashes to black screen in Windows 11
Looking for this 1.19.4 release like the last few comments. Looked around and haven't been able to find it anywhere.
I run Core Temp on every machine I own, this is the first time I've run into BSOD as soon as application is run. Ryzen 7 Pro 7840U if that's helpful.
I also saw the comments about the bio metrics, except I use those so I'd like to keep them enabled. Hoping that this 1.19.4 release will allow me to not need to disable them.

Can't answer by PM, yet (may need a certain amount of posts), but a short feedback for the 1.19.4 version I got through a PM:
It does not crash, but occasionally it reads wrong power consumption numbers (like several hundred thousand or even a million Watts), when in reality it is probably closer to 5 to10 Watts. If that could be fixed on top of it, it would be nice.
