Suggestion - allow CoreTemp for non admin users

Post by CPU.anonym »

Hello. Core Temp is great software. It shows just nice, easy readable percentage numbers in tray, instead of shiny graphic diagrams. Also I can set color, and fonts to be more readable on non-standard system themes.
But one thing is really annoying: I prefer to use user standard account for security reason. It don't allow me run Core Temp at start-up, because of driver installed when program starting and uninstalling when close, which is needed for reading core temperatures.
My suggestions is to make Core-temp start without this driver and it will only show us CPU & RAM in tray.
option to instal/uninstall driver manually from menu
(Also it could be good to install this driver permanent)

I'm not sure how useful that would be, you can find simple tools to monitor CPU and RAM without Core Temp if that's what you need.
Having access to the driver is essential for a lot of its functionality, changing that now would probably require a lot more work than the gained benefit from such a change.

I know that main goal of CoteTemp is showing Core Temp, 8)
but it is Microsoft stupid decision to not allow standard users to read temperatures

Could it be technically possible to install driver forever in system when installing CoreTemp, and don't require admin rights for main program, so every user can run it.

Btw. I fixed the problem with autostart on standart accounts by create task in Task Scheduler, and using program called Surun (https://sourceforge.net/projects/surun/).So I can allow user to run CoreTemp without my password and UAC. But it isn't ideal solution for everyone.

It may be technically possible, but it is not feasible.
Core Temp needs requires admin permissions for more than just loading the driver, it's also required for other functions.
