435W TDP? - Threadripper 1920X

Post by OutbackJon »

Not sure if this is a bug or if I'm just misunderstanding the TDP readings. My AMD Threadripper 1920X is showing 435 watts TDP. The expected TDP according to AMD is 180 watts.

The actual watt readings in CoreTemp seem reasonable, (~75 watts idle) so I'm wondering if this is a database error.

I mean, I know my system is pulling that kind of wattage running Folding@Home to create an auxiliary space heater during the winter. :D But the processor alone shouldn't give a reading like that.

I have not had an opportunity to test this version on the 1st and 2nd gen Zen based chips.
It appears that there's no documented way (so far) tot get the TDP and TjMax info the same way as it's done on Zen 2/3/4.
Sadly, these fields will be removed in the next release.

Thanks for the response.

If this wasn't my secondary rig, I'd use this as an excuse to upgrade.
