Shared Memory / SNMP

Post by arrmo »

Hi,

Trying to understand the Advanced option - Enabled global shared memory (SNMP). Can you clarify the SNMP part of this? Asking because I'd like to use Core Temp output (i.e. temperatures) with SNMP ... but not sure this is what this option really means.

Thanks!

This options sets the shared memory section as global, so it can be accessed by different users.

Yes, the shared memory part of that makes sense - trying to understand why it says "SNMP". Asking because I'm trying to use SNMP, and want to get thermal data to my NMS server. Just not sure if Core Temp is somehow hooking in to SNMP on the Windows side of things.

Thanks!

To be honest, I don't remember why I used this term as it was added a very long time ago. It's possible that it is a mistake.
Either way what it actually refers to is a globally (system wide) shared memory block. It has nothing to do with the Simple Network Management Protocol.

OK, no problem at all - perhaps just wishful thinking on my part ... LOL.

Thanks for clarifying!

I think you added that option as someone was making an SNMP plugin and needed to be able to access "Global".

viewtopic.php?f=64&t=971

It doesn't look like the person making the plugin ended up getting it working though or at least they didn't post it on here.
