Ryzen 5 2600X occasionally reports absurdly high max temp

Post by Nemesis D »

I haven't been able to catch it in the act, but CoreTemp reports that at some point my R5-2600X hit a max package temp of 207C. Clearly, this is a bug, because that temp would melt any consumer CPU that I know of into slag.

Is this a known bug, or maybe a sensor error? I've tried several other monitoring apps, and none of them have gone above 71C. Using a Corsair H100i GTX for cooling with Cooler Master RGB Masterfan Pro 120s instead of the stock Corsair units (same static pressure spec though). Corsair AIO is front intake, and the case is otherwise well ventilated with two additional 120mm fans for intake and one for exhaust at a higher RPM. Only other thermal load inside is my 1050ti reference.

Ryzen 5 2600X stock speeds w/ Corsair H100i GTX
Asus B450i Gaming ITX
2x8GB Team Nighthawk 3200 stock speeds
EVGA GTX 1050ti reference
WD Black 500GB NVMe
2x WD Blue 1TB 2.5 SSD
Cooler Master Q300L (desktop config)
Seasonic Focus 650 Gold

Sadly this is a known issue. At this time, I think it has something to do with other monitoring software that is running at the same time with Core Temp.
Do you have any other hardware monitoring applications running at the same time as Core Temp? It would be interesting to see how Core Temp would behave if you closed it for a while.
