Hi,
Yesterday I started having problems with Core Temp as well. On Windows 8.1 64bit, after installing the latest NVidia drivers, CoreTemp started crashing when starting up. NO FREEZES, just the program itself crashes.
i7 4770K Haswell here @ stock speeds. 1 month old setup. CoreTemp worked OK 'till yesterday night. This crash only occurs in 1.0RC6; 1.0 RC5 works fine.
Edit: Tried uninstalling the NVidia driver and the crash still occurs...I'm at a loss, 'cuz I have no idea what made this crash appear in the first place...

Also, here's the crash log:

Coretemp RC5 works correctly.
CoreTemp RC6 works correctly when before it I started and closed CoreTemp RC5.
Without VGA driver (Microsoft Standart VGA adapter) CoreTemp RC6 works correctly.

I am using i5 3570k, if that makes any difference

Why this version is still online considering there's such a serious bug? Unbelievable!
It's disgusting if user dunno what's freezing the whole OS and wasting couple hours to figure this out.
Further more, because I set it as `starting with windows', windows 8 immediately hung every other time when logged in, it's even harder to catch CoreTemp as a culprit, hitting the reset the only way, causing data corruption after several restart. Then it's gonna raise the speculation about some sort of hard drive failure, which is not, way deviating from clue.
If it were not for some scrutiny and luck, it'd be a real hefty work to narrow down to CoreTemp, if it's starting with windows.

It did take me a bit to figure out that it was Coretemp freezing my system. At first I thought it was videocard or memory. I don't really get how a simple monitoring program can effectively shutdown my whole system.

I also second the question of why this build is still up when it's clearly broken...

I'm having the same problem on W8 64 bit.. Can't run it at all without having a system crash. Anyone have a link to RC5? Was running that up until I wiped yesterday. Can't seem to find a link for it.

I was also having trouble on my Intel Core i7 4770K Haswell powered computer.

After signing in to Windows 8.1 64-bit, Windows would not load fully and become unresponsive.
I would have to hit the reset button and keep rebooting until I finally managed to get into Windows.

It hangs my new work laptop completely too. My new laptop (hp probook g450) has Windows 8 64 bit (cpu i7-3632QM).

Core temp works fine with ivybridge i5 cpu at home...

Just thought I would register to say I am having the exact same problem. Most of the time when I start Coretemp 1.0 RC6 my computer will completely freeze. I can still move the mouse but everything else is unresponsive so I have to do a hard reset using the physical power button.

Interestingly I have been using it a fair bit over the past few weeks but this issue has only arisen in the last two days. I was worried it was my overclock but it is rock stable in everything else I do so I am happy to see it is a widespread issue with Coretemp.

I am on Windows 8 64 bit ( Specs: 3770k at 4.5ghz, p67a gd53, 16gb 1866 MHz ram and two 670's in SLI)

Now my 2nd 64bit Win 7 PC just started having the problem. Almost immediately after starting windows, many programs crashed due to no system memory left. Coretemp was hogging over 10gb!

I had to uninstall it.

Please can you just give us a link to RC5? It worked perfectly for me.

Core Temp 1.0 RC5 Standalone

Here is Core Temp 1.0 RC5 standalone. Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
You can't use the installer as it will just download RC6 again.

Just exit Core Temp, then copy and replace the files in the program folder.

:>: I hope the developer doesn't mind. If you do, just let me know and I will remove it. :<:

So it seems to affect Win8.1 specifically and both Intel and AMD systems (but not all of them).
I've installed Win8.1 on a couple systems I have here, and none exhibit this problem.
Could you please mention which GPU you have installed and what version of drivers you are using?

Hi Coolest.

From my experiences with this problem with RC6, I don't think it is graphics related as all my computers use NVIDIA graphics.
I think it is CPU related. I had Core Temp RC6 installed on all computers until I had to revert back to RC5 on one computer because it was hanging or making my system unresponsive at startup.
And the computer that RC6 was causing troubles with has an Intel Core i7 4770K Haswell CPU.

My other computers have a mix of older Intel and AMD CPUs, and they are running fine with RC6.

I hope this info helps. :)

I'm also having this problem, but I think I may have discovered something.

How many people here use Logitech Gaming Software? I personally have a G510 and a G9x. DebugView was running while I fiddled with CoreTemp and I noticed something peculiar; I could run CoreTemp without issue, so long as LGS wasn't running.

All of my unnecessary programs were closed while running this test in anticipation of a crash - I simply didn't want to lose any data due to corruption and the like. To my surprise and confusion, CoreTemp ran perfectly fine. I could change any setting and apply them, and run the program for as long as I wanted. However, while CoreTemp was running I was unable to start LGS. If I closed CoreTemp, then I could start LGS. As soon as I started CoreTemp with LGS already running, my computer would immediately hang. Thankfully I disabled the automatic startup feature before doing this, so I was able to reboot straight to my desktop without the need of Safe Mode.

I believe the culprit here is the G15 plugin within CoreTemp, or something having to do with it. It seems to be causing this problem for me, anyway. Perhaps the Win8 version of LGS is conflicting with CoreTemp's plugin, or vice-versa?

Thanks for looking into this. I would also like to test this fix that you speak of, so I'll PM you after I post this. My DxDiag is attached, but my DebugView log is too large, so I've put it on PasteBin: http://pastebin.com/SV9ThFnm
