Core Temp crashes/shuts down my Intel rig thread #1

Ok, since this issue is long gone I guess it's time to unstick this sticky and let it drop off the face of the first page.

As I've been getting an increasing amount of emails from people who are having problems with Core Temp and they're computers I decided to see if I can find some commonality between the systems as I have yet to find one from the scattered emails/posts across different forums.

What I want to ask is simple:
Post your

CPU and CPU speed settings (FSBxMultiplier)
Motherboard, chipset and driver version
Video card(s) and driver version
Memory and speed settings
OS and Service pack version
Other things you may think could be important that I have not listed[/b]

samething here see sig for hardware E4300 system. i was doing 2 FAH clients then downloaded .95 ran it, it just shutdown my rig. thought it was not enough juice for 2.4ghz mild oc which was stable for 16hrs+ in orthos. didnt run FAH just tried to start .95 same thing just shutsdown my rig. thought it was cause the bios does not have the micro code to ID the cpu on bootup.

to add it doesnt matter if running stock fsb or oced still the same thing...

Thanks for looking into this.

Side note: It's actually running right now over on the computer, and it's working fine. Seems about one out of every seven or so program starts work. I shut it down and load it back up, and it crashes the computer to restart. No BSOD, I don't think.

Edit: Wait, what? I stressed the temp with Orthos a bit (loaded at about 65 C - time to try the AS5 I got) and I started CoreTemp a bit after starting. It worked! I shut it down, and worked again! Five times in a row! Sounds dumb, but that's a first for some reason. Maybe the temp has to be above a certain point or it crashes the computer? Lemme let the E4300 cool and I'll test some more.

Edit: It didn't work when I restarted the computer and started up Core Temp without first using Orthos. Maybe to raise the temp? I can't be sure.

It restarted itself and I ran Orthos a bit. Loaded up Core Temp fine, another four or five times. *shrugs* Not sure what it could be.

first of all, thanks for your effort and continuing work!

unfortunately i have to queue up and confirm this bug. starting coretemp immediately reboots my system!

using 0.95 and it restarts my PC too

restarted 3x

first after playing TDU, i launched Coretemp and restart
2x i was just browsing the net and launched coretemp..restart

temps when crash happened was low (idle temps)

as reported by speedfan (coretemp and speedfan agree on my core 0 and 1) @ 48-51c

Alright here are my spec.

Intel Core2 Duo E6600 @ 2.4GHZ
Asus P5W DH-Deluxe
1GB DDR2 PC2-6400 Cosair XMS2 800MHz
300GB HD Western Digital
Nvidia Geforce 7600 GS 256MB

With the old program .94 i didn't had ne problems but with the .95 everytime i try to start it, it would restart my computer. And this time i told it not to restart but rather give me the error screen and this is what I get.

Stop: c00021a {Fatal System Error}

The Windows SubSystem System process terminated unexpectedly with a status of OX c0000005 (Ox75e9ad23 Ox0110f240).

The system has been shutdown.

Jesus! Please tell me the only problem is CoreTemp!

I just got a new setup, Abit F-I90HD and I was a testing it, you know only installed XP and a few programs like OCCT, SuperPi and installed CoreTemp to monitor temps while stresstesting.

Then I installed Google Toolbar so it would be easier to search stuff nut as soon as it started installing computer rebooted. Now I was like WTF!?

Then by 3 times as soon as I launched CoreTemp the computer just shutted down instantly. Disk stop spinning, complete shut down. 3 times in a row! Damn I was getting sick...

Then I decided to take a look here and I found that I'm not alone experimenting the problem and it seems related to CoreTemp and I wish that only CoreTemp is the problem. It would suck big time having to return the motherboard and messing with the rig...

Since this new mATX board is new and getting a lot of attention I asked more people to test CoreTemp also, you may want to monitor this thread on [H].

Try to run the system without core temp and see what happens.
Also try running core temp without the extra stuff running in the background, especially OCCT. and report back.

Really, I think CoreTemp was the problem. I ran it alone right after Xp restart and it would reboot the computer.

I freaked out for a moment because like I said it's a new build setup and I thought the memory or the board was problematic. Glad that I found this thread, this confirm CoreTemp is doing something crazy not only to me to make the computer reboot like this.

I just barely finished installing Windows yesterday and after installing all drives and most software I started installing my benchmark and monitoring software. Well after installing CoreTemp v0.95 I tried opening the program but about 4 seconds aftering clicking on it my computer just shuts down completely? I know someone else already asked but can you host CoreTemp v0.94 until the new version is workable on our systems? It is such a nessessity for me to use I don't want to go without it! As an alternative to stress and monitor my new setup I found Intel TAT. You may want to use it until The Coolest react and remove 0.95

Fortunelty I was able to find an older version of CoreTemp, v0.94 which works great! I also do use TAT so thanks for the suggestion, much apprecaited! By the way is v0.95 working for you?

Core Temp 0.94 is back up (check the Core Temp home page). I hope I will be able to get 0.95 back on track sometime soon.

Thermal Management disabled in BIOS

Initially installed .95 and it worked fine, showed my cores a little bit hotter than they were. From memory I changed the interval to something like 1000ms and then restarted. Every restart ended in tears from then on as I set CoreTemp open on startup.

I noticed when it does happen, my 36GB raptors power down first, then the screen goes Blue, then it turns off. Needs power button to be pushed to start again.

Have .94 running now and its going fine. Showing my temps a little now i think (23,27 Celcius)

Computer reboots only when loading Coretemp and TuneXP at the same time (Coretemp loading first then TuneXP second).

I thought it was the ram causing the system to be unstable, but it only reboots when I have Coretemp loading and then trying to load TuneXP at the same time (doubleclick Coretemp icon and TuneXP icon). TuneXP hasn't caused any of my other computers to reboot, and I've got older versions of Coretemp on one other computer, this system was the first to run 0.95.

Core Temp 95 did fine until I installed my Logitech G15 Keyboard Profiler. After that it crashed the PC when i tried to start Core Temp. The older Version (0.94) works at the moment. The Keyboard Profiler also reads out some System status parameters (CPU and RAM usage) and displays it on a little LCD on the Keyboard.

In general CoreTemp works but every now and then it causes a reboot.

Okay, this one might help. I've used Coretemp v.95 from almost the day it was released without issue or problem, zilch. It worked great, just as the previous two versions did.

Just a week ago I made a single hardware change, that was it. Since then I've been experiencing BSOD's I've never seen before, always "The Windows Subsystem system process terminated unexpectedly with a status...". The error values are mostly identical, I ran the program and snapped both of these photos back to back, most of the info is the same in all of the previous BSODs best I recall.

I've not made any software or driver changes and everything is still on the most up to date drivers. The hardware in question was the RAM, I exchanged a ProMOS Corsair kit for a Micron D9 (Levin PCB) Crucial Ballistix kit that uses 2.2v stock.

Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 3.2ghz to 3.73ghz
Gigabyte 965P-DS3 F10 BIOS
Corsair 2gb XMS2 800mhz RAM // Crucial 2gb 1067mhz RAM (Both run 5-5-5-15, but will do 4-4-4-12. Same error with both speed settings even below 1ghz frequencies, but only on the Crucial)
FOXCONN 8800GTS 320mb Driver 158.19
Windows XP w/ XP2
Watercooled System, 120mm fan cooling the RAM + NB

Several key points, the system under Corsair RAM was Orthos blend stable for more than 24 hours at 3.5ghz, as high as that RAM allowed. No issues with Coretemp at all.

With the Crucial kit I've now done 3.6ghz seemingly stable and 3.73ghz still unstable. After the BSODS first started I kept dropping the overclock back down as far as 3.2ghz and they would still occur when I started CoreTemp, at which point I figured out the culprit. I could have Orthos AND ATI Tool both loading down the entire system for 17 hours straight without a single error, then start CoreTemp 95 and it would instant BSOD. Using the exact settings known to be stable at 3.5ghz still tests as stable, but Coretemp will now BSOD the system. It never did with the Corsair at the same settings, only difference was the D9's needed 2.2v instead of 2.1v to run.

I reverted to stock and I could not manage to force Coretemp to BSOD the system, but I didn't try very hard. Any overclock I've tried above 3ghz can be hit or miss, and 3.5ghz or above almost always is a BSOD if I start Coretemp.

I googled this up, it matches the error parameters very very closely. Hopefully it will be of help, although I'm honestly not sure how changing the RAM relates to it. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/234658

Which CPU revision do you have? If its Pre-B0 or you're using an old Core Temp version please update to 0.94 or 0.95
If it doesn't work, please PM me a CPUz Register dump of your system.
