Balloon Popup crashes Core Temp

Post by Jassifrickanation »

While I was overclocking my CPU, I came across a problem with Core Temp crashing when the temperatures started to reach the custom temperature I had set it in the overheat protection.

After a bit of testing, I found the crash only happens when the balloon popup is selected to activate when the overheat protection is enabled. Any other setting does not affect it (from what I can tell). When it crashes, Windows 8 will tell me CPU temperature and system information utility has stopped working.

I am running Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. I'm not sure what other information about my system is useful at this point, so, I'll avoid giving a huge list of unnecessary specifications.

Also, are there any recommendations for a program I can run to give me a warning about when my CPU is running warmer than I'd like? Like, some kinda audio or video in a loop? Anything that will grab my attention (but hopefully not startle me so much with an alarmingly loud sound).

Not quite sure what the issue is. I just tested it in Win8 and it's working fine on my end.
Regarding your other question, take a look at this thread: http://www.alcpu.com/forums/viewtopic.p ... larm#p8687

I might do some more testing later and see if I can figure out what is the conflict. Until then, while I don't have immediate access to a Windows XP machine, it did prompt me to do a "audio to exe converter" search. It led me to this program.

http://download.cnet.com/Audio-Video-to ... 60064.html

It was actually one I had used a long time ago (back when I did use an XP machine) and had spaced it out until now. When I saw it, I couldn't imagine it would even have any Windows 8 support, but sure enough, it's still in production. I tested it out and it managed to play a couple different audio files converted into exe just fine. Biggest down side is the free version doesn't allow the converted file to loop or end after playing, so you end up with a peculiar sound at the end of the clip (based on a specific sound in the audio clip). I also haven't tested it with full screen applications (games) yet to see if it'll minimize the screen or how it'll affect gameplay. Though, might work when executed once and as a really good warning when your system is in trouble (I'm planning on trying it with One-Winged Angel from Final Fantasy VII in the future).
