Low temperature readings with 'Brisbane', 'Lima', 'Sparta'

I have been getting a lot of emails and there have been several threads started regarding under reporting of temperature on 65nm based chips.

I want to make this public and very clear: This is NOT a Core Temp bug!

It applies to all CPUs based on the 65nm K8 core (Revision G):

• Athlon64
  Athlon64 X2
  Athlon64 X2 BE
  Athlon64 BE
  Turion64
  Turion64 X2
  Sempron

It is a problem with the DTS in the CPU. Even AMD themselves have acknowledged the problem in an email.
There is no way around it. You can however use the offset option in Core Temp to get readings that make more sense, but accuracy can't be guaranteed.
I'm not going to be replying to any threads\emails (except maybe a link to this thread) regarding 65nm K8 and low temperatures any more as there is no point.

Anything you'd like to say can be posted in this thread, so feel free.

So basically the only temperature you get for CPU is from an external sensor. How much difference is there between DTS and external sensos, and what would this mean for overclocking?

shouldnt be more than 5degrees tops. and there is no real difference in overclocking. how do you think people did it in the past with Socket A's lol.

I don't get the external temp. Core Temp is only able to read the DTS.
The difference between the two different readings can be big, so just ignore the DTS readings.

I meant 'external' temps as in mobo sensors that dont read actual core temperatures, and other apps that don't read DTS on the CPU...

I will put some to the test next couple of days and post a brief overview of my findings.

All other programs read the same motherboard sensor.

i ve the same issue...my idle core temp is 20 and 22'c
i guess dts error about 10-15 'c..is it correct?

Next Core Temp release will offer temperature offset setting to allow AMD CPU users and especially Brisbane users to use Core Temp without looking at ridiculously low temperature..

Sorry, am new to this, so just wanted to check.

I have a Brisbane chip:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+

And CoreTemp gives me readings at idle of: 9C and 14C

Asus PC Probe II, gives me a CPU temp reading, at idle, of 39C.



Is the asus pc probe an accurate program that i can rely on? and if not, how do i offset the temp on coretemp to represent the real temps?? I know i can alter the values using the tjunction max setting in the options, but how can i accurately know what to increase the temps by?

Asus Probe is just fine. It doesn't obtain the data from the DTS, but its good enough.

Hi everyone!
Just downloaded 0.99.4 version of CoreTemp,and I have seen that there are differences,improvements from the previous release.Great!
But I have a question.I own AMD X2 5400+ with Brisbane core.I know that the temp readings in previous versions weren't quite right,and as far as I know it was an AMD issue in these cores.
But now i see an improvement,the temps are now pretty similar to ones that i get for the "CPU" value from Everest or my motherboard software,but still there is a difference between the two readings.
Core #0&1 values in CoreTemp are 3-5C degrees lower than the CPU temp value in Everest or MB software.I believe that cores should always be hotter than the CPU value,right?How good,precise are Temp readings in new release of Core Temp for Brisbane CPUs?

Readings for Brisbanes should be much closer to reality now, but still I can't guarantee that it's actually accurate.

My cpu screen keeps flicking on and off and the icons disar. How can I fix this? I turn my cpu on and the screen keeps flickering on and off. My icons disapear then 5 seconds later they appear and over over again.

Hi...I'm very glad to see the newest version released and I think it is a very cool software,thank you for doing this ..^^
However, I got a question to ask, my 4200+ brisbane BH-G2 got 55~60 when it is idle ...compare to my friend's 5600+ (idle 40),
seems have a unusaual temp...whether I OC my cpu or not, it still got this high temp..= =
although my PC works fine on most of time , but this high temp still bothers me ,because sometimes it still shut down for no clear reason.

I check out every reason I can check on my computer ,
seems nothing wrong.

Is it possible this brisbane DTS got some problem so I get this high temp?

It's possible, you can apply an offset if you wish.

Hi everybody,

I've got an AMD 64X2 6000 (Brisbane) running on an MSI K9N2 Platinum m/board.

Core Temp is reporting temperatures approx 10 degrees HIGHER than MSIs Dual Core Centre.
Could somebody advise me which is likely to be correct.

Any help will be most appreciated, Cheers,
