overheating and shutting down q6600

Post by techadmin »

hi-

i just started running Core Temp 1.0 RC8 because my computer started shutting off after running for a few hours. Windows 10
Asus P5K Premium Wi-fi
Intel Q6600 (not overclocked)
Revision GO
8gb OCZ DDR2

from a cold boot (off overnight) after 15 minutes running just a browser and Avast AV in the background, Coretemp shows Core Temp #0 97 (!) degrees centigrade, #1 97 (!), #2 93, #3 93.

the Temperatures during use are sometimes climbing as high as 115 degrees. attached is the screen shot 10 or so minutes after i started writing this. any thoughts? thanks.

Re: CoreCPU temps show higher than other Monitors do

Well your processor is definitely overheating, and it's shutting down when it reaches a critical temperature point.
It could be that the heatsink fan stopped working or that it's clogged with dust. I'd check that first and go on from there.
