Core Temp 1.0 RC8 stopped working

Post by VLcKo23 »

Hello, I've been using core temp for quite a while now, but never encountered this. Yesterday it worked, today it stopped and can't be launched again. My cpu is AMD FX 8300 and I really wanna monitor it's heat. I just started up my PC as usual and it stopped working... I'm not IT expert so all what i did was fix registry files and cleaned up my PC.

EDIT: changing ini file i figured out changing AutoUpdateCheck from 1 to 0 resolved it.

RC 8 Crash on win 10

Post by Confused Carrot »

Hello

I just updated to RC 8, and when I try to run it, after a few seconds I got a message, that says that the CPU temperature and system information utility has shut down (or something like that, my windows isn't in english). This happens with the portable versions too. Both on 32 and 64 bit.

I couldn't find an installer of RC6, so I now use the portable version of it, and it works like before.

This is on a win 10 64bit system, with an AMD FX-6300 CPU.

Does someone have a fix for that?

EDIT:
That .ini change solved it for me too.
Thanks.

When you start Core Temp it should create a Core Temp.ini file.
Open it and change AutoUpdateCheck=1; to AutoUpdateCheck=0;
Then save and try to start Core Temp again, let me know if that works.
Also, please attach the output from the error message.

Could you guys please post what Windows locales you are using?
I'm trying to track this problem down without much success, but I have a feeling it has to do with a certain configuration of language or time/date settings in Windows.
I would appreciate it if you could post screenshots of each tab from the 'Region and Language' dialog.

The weird thing is, its stopped working some months ago, it was fine before.
I hoped for some update, but because there is none, maybe better if I just start crying about it hehe

CoreTemp 1.0 RC8 Start-up stop in Japanese Vista 32bit

Post by inoue64 »

But it was AutoUpdateCheck=0;
It can Start-up RC3.
I want to try another older version, where is clearly RC6 or RC5?

It looks like this is a different issue altogether. Does this happen with English and other languages too or only Japanese?
It is a strange crash indeed. I have still not been able to find the problem, sadly.

Re: Core Temp 1.0 RC8 stopped working

Post by iceman42593 »

I just recently upgrade to windows 10, and upon upgrading core temp worked fine. A day later after modifying some setting and installing updates suddenly I kept getting an error stating: "CPU temperature and system information utility has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem." After which the program would close. This happened even after attempting to uninstall and reinstall the software. I then tried the trick to change the value of AutoUpdateCheck from 1 to 0 and the software began working perfectly again. The only reason I took the time to write this up is that I did modify how the dates are shown in the region setting of the control panel which is something that you, the coretemp creator, were inquiring about as a potential location for the bug. I changed the short date format from M/d/yyyy to ddd, M/d/yyyy. The others were left alone at their normal default values (ie. long date: dddd, MMMM dd, yyyy; short time: h:mm tt; long time: h:mm:ss tt; first day of week: sunday) I figured if this information could help you diagnose where a potential bug may lie in the software that I would post it to help ya out. I am using the North American English edition of Windows 10 Pro (not sure if they vary by language and region, so I just gave both). Keep up the great work with this software! In my opinion, this is one of the best programs for cpu temps out there; I really like how all the individual core temps are shown in the system tray area.

Thank you! This post helped me track down the problem and finally fix it.
Oddly enough I did not have that date option, I've used your configuration and was finally able to reproduce the crash.
The next release will not have this problem, and you will be able to turn the update check back on.
