Computer overheating or not?

Post by CoreTemp-User293 »

Hi,

I have an 8 core Xeon, and it is having some crashing issues. I use prime95 to load up the CPUs, and then it crashes. If I understand the Tj max correctly, the processors can go up to 100c before they crash? That is the Tj max on my processor apparently. Currently at idle they run at 65 degrees. At load they run at up to 80. Is this safe? It seems incredibly hot!

Thanks guys.

80C full load is hot but it isn't critical.
Crashes usually happen on a server (considering there is no overclocking and everything's is running in spec) could be power supply related (too weak, or going bad)
What power supply do you have and what wattage?
It could potentially be bad RAM, try to run memtest on it and see if you get any errors or crashes.

Temperature usually wouldn't cause a crash unless the CPU is overclocked and is unstable at the temperature it's running at.
