E8500 noob temp question

Postby CoreTemp-User041 » Sat Sep 13, 2008 11:37 am

Just installed Core Temp 0.99.3 to mon temps on my new E8500. The core temp for core #0 fluctuates but the core temp for core #1 seems fixed @38 degrees (load flucuates on both cores). Is this normal for Wolfdale?? Do I have to start thinking RMA??

Just ran Prime 95, temp rises in both cores as torture test runs.

Is it typical for one core temp (the blue one) to remain "fixed" (ie. not rise) when idle at the desktop??

Yes, this is a common problem with 45nm chips from Intel.
At lower temperatures the sensors become "stuck" and they simply won't report a temperature below a certain point.
As long as the DTS functionality isn't broken (the sensors starts to work at higher temperature) Intel won't RMA the CPU, since the DTS, is designed to be used for thermal protection and not to report CPU temperature.
