hello, my cpu is a new Intel Core two duo E8500 @ 3.16

When I run the new Coretemp 0.99.3 the Frequency keeps constantly jumping from 1999.80mhz 333.30 x 6 to 3166.35Mhz 333.30x9.5
while Im watching every few seconds it is jumping between these two speeds?

why ? Do I have a faulty CPU? why does it do this?
please explain.. is this normal?

thanks.

This is perfectly normal. This is just EIST or C1E (depends which one you have enabled in the BIOS) in action.
This is a power saving feature of the CPU, which drops clock speed and voltage to save power when idle.

The old versions of Core Temp didn't detect CPU clock on the fly, so that's a reason why it was always constant in previous versions.

thank goodness for that. I thought I had a bad CPU or bad motherboard..

:)

I liked the older versions that did not have this feature.. its a worry to newbies like me who dont know what its for. ;)

LOL

thanks
I feel better already.
