Core temp = TJMax - DTS

TJMax = a constant.

DTS = digital thermo sensor. there are one of these under (or above) each of your cores.

If DTS that coretemp reads is 155 and your TJMax is 95 your core temp is 155-95=60 °C. There is some debate over what TJMax for a given processor really is since Intel doesn't publish it. You can set your TJMax using the coretemp.ini. I believe my X3360 uses a TJMax of 95 whereas coretemp out-of-the-box uses a value of 105. Again, easily adjusted.
