I'm getting two messages.

Post by BobP »

Help!
I just bought and installed the Intel I5 chip with the heat sink and fan that came with it.
I was curious as to what temperature it was running at so I downloaded CoreTemp.
CoreTemp said that core 1 was fluctuating between 79 C and 83 C and core 2 was about 5 degrees cooler.
From what I could gather from reading posts, that was kind of high.
So I bought a Thermalight MUX-120 Heatskink and, after reading the directions, clamped it onto my I5 with the cooling paste and fan that came with it.
It didn't help at all. I would think that a monster cooler like that (it's the size of a motorcycle radiator - almost) would make some difference.
BTW, when I blow room temperature air on it with a hair dryer (heat off) if drops about 2 degrees C; so it then it fluctuates between about 77 and 81C.
When I reboot and go into Bios. The bios says my CPU is 19 degrees C.
What am I doing wrong? I don't know which one to believe.

The current version of Core Temp can't detect the TjMax on these chips yet, so if you look closely, you'll see that it shows the temperature distance to TjMax and not the actual Core Temp.
You're not doing anything wrong, Core Temp simply needs to be updated.
I'm finishing it up, and a new version should be available soon.

do you know a time, when it will be finished?

because i'm a little bit afraid of the temps, which are shown (80-90°C)
