model

Post by alangary »

Core temp 0.99.8 64 bit seems to be working like a charm however the line where it says Model is blank yet under tools/system information shows Intel(R) Core(TM i7 - 2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz. Also where it says Select CPU it has Processor #0 greyed out then 4 core(s) 8 Thread(s). Clock Modulation is blank as is Revision. Can someone shed light on these things for me a novice but inquisitive computer guy.

thanks

The current version can't properly recognize the new processor generation yet, that is the reason why Model and Revision fields are blank.
Your CPU has 4 cores, and Hyperthreading, so it has 8 logical threads.
Modulation is an advanced setting, only available through specialized software. It allows to set the active duty cycle of the processor, meaning you can lower its effective clock speed and decrease power consumption.

The temperature readings are still accurate, though, as the method for reading temperature has not changed.

my curiosoty stems from using ChessBase Deep Fritz12 Rybka chess program with capabilities of accessing 8 CPU's and noticed that although I have only 4 CPU's, leaving the software on 8 uses 100% of resources and cutting software down to 4 CPU's only uses 50% of resources. Temps reach 74. Will that be too hot and reduce life span of CPU? My understranding is if it remains below 80 all is ok with max allowable at 100. other than Rybka temps remain 25 -40.
