Suggestion: modify update notification window

Postby unknownsoldierx » Tue Feb 23, 2016 3:45 am

I have CoreTemp set to start when I logon. I booted into Windows today and was presented with this window to update. I didn't know what it was for, since it doesn't say. I had to go to task manager to find that it was for CoreTemp. I think the window should say that it's for updating CoreTemp.

You're right, I realized this only after the release of RC8. That this box can pop up when Core Temp is not visible and then it has no context.
I will change this in a future release, but RC8 will still have the same popup, though.

Anxiety alert!

Postby DrHow » Tue Mar 15, 2016 12:23 am

I reboot and I get this notice on my screen:

CoreTempUpdate.png
CoreTempUpdate.png (25.03 KiB) Viewed 2204 times

I have no idea it is from Core Temp. Indeed, I immediately suspect that it is some sort of malware ruse intended to suck me into installing something nasty. Nevertheless, I was certain I could still bail out if it did download something suspicious; so I went ahead and clicked "yes" to download. Surprise! It's just sending me to a Core Temp Web page. No big deal. (Odd that it has been so long since there has been an update discovered by the app.)

Anyway, may I suggest that, in the next version, you elaborate the notification popup message to make it clear that it is from Core Temp and that it is only going to send my browser to the Web page where I can do the download? We have enough anxiety inducing messages without Core Temp unnecessarily adding to the flood.

I do like the app. Thanks for the good work.

I moved your post to the relevant thread, you can go over it for more info. But in short the next release will have the popup dialog changed to identify it as belonging to Core Temp.
