CoreTemp gadget

I can't seem to get the CT gadget to do anything. I downloaded the .gadget file, I have CoreTemp 0.99.7 installed and running, and I tried to launch the gadget, but I get a "what do you want to open this with" message. I haven't used any .gadget files before, so I'm probably doing something wrong. I'm running Win7 Home Premium X64.

Did you download it from the Live gallery or somewhere else?

Windows should recognize the .gadget extension and ask you if you want to Install or Cancel.
The default application which is responsible for these files is "Windows Desktop Gadgets"
Or you could open the file using any winzip app like Winrar or 7zip and extract the files to C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets\CoreTempGadget2.4.gadget
Then it should should up in the Windows gadget gallery.

I got a notification about the new version 2.5 but when I click on the download-button at Window Live Gallery I just get version 2.4. Is there something wrong?

That is just a file name. It's 2.5.
It is named that way so that it overwrites the previous version instead of creating a new folder which would require you to reconfigure the gadget.
