Newbie - advice on Intel i5 750 temp please.

Post by corechew »

Hi CoreTemp & everyone,

Thanks for allowing me to use CoreTemp. Great product.

Could you advice me on some of my concerns please.

My computer keeps giving out one short beep (not loud like when the system boot up) occasionally (sometimes often) but not continuous or repeating. It repeats but the interval between each beep is few minutes apart so I am not sure what is the problem since the Award Bios beep code does not explain such them.

So I am trying to narrow down (or eliminate) the problem one by one as I fear the beep could relate to high temperature.

As this is my work PC I have only used it for Microsoft Office and webs surfing since I am not a game player yet. Purely for work at the moment.

This is my PC (first build):

1) Windows 7 64bits Home Premium
2) CPU - Intel i5 750.
3) Mobo - Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 mATX. (Award Bios)
4) RAM - 4GB.
5) HDDs - Intel SSD 80GB & Samsung F3 1TB.
6) Case - Lian-Li V351R.
7) Cooling - Corsair H50 water cool.
8) Graphic - GeFore GT240 512mb.

Question:

1) What is the acceptable temperature for my system (Intel i5 750)?

The reading from CoreTemp is as followed:

Tj.Max 99C
CPU
Core #0 25c (low 24c) (high 35C) (Load 0)
Core #1 25c (low 24c) (high 30C) (Load 0)
Core #2 25c (low 24c) (high 32C) (Load 3)
Core #3 25c (low 24c) (high 38C) (Load 0)

2) Is my Tj. Max temp too high? (no games. Just web surfing & Microsoft Office only)

Tj.Max 99C
Core #0 74C to Tj.Max (Low 75) (High 63) (Load 0)
Core #1 74C to Tj.Max (Low 75) (High 63) (Load 0)
Core #2 74C to Tj.Max (Low 75) (High 63) (Load 3)
Core #3 74C to Tj.Max (Low 75) (High 64) (Load 0)

In your FAQ you indicated that it must be at least 20C below the Tj.Max, so I am a bit concern since I hardly used the computer at all ...

Please advice.

Thanks

Hi,

Your temps seem great. Less than 40C is perfect.
Regarding the TjMax temperature is basically the "raw value" which Core Temp reads from your CPU.
The temperature is calculated as follows: Temp = TjMax - "raw value".
So basically the TjMax temp and the regular temp that you see are the same.

If you're interested, you can read more on this here:

It's an old article but the same principle still applies to the latest processor generations.

So I'm still confused and a newb.

Below is my readings:

Image

So if each core is below the T.J Max I'm a-okay? Or do I need to add up all the core temps and make sure it is below the T.J. Max?

Thanks guys!

As long as you are 20c or more under TjMax (meaning 80c or less), you're fine.

For each core correct? So all 4 cores are roughly the same temp and as long as I'm under 80c on each core I'm good? It's not the combined temp right? Just triple checking.
