Too hot to handle -- fahrenheit

Post by vmare »

This app is cool. Works perfectly on my other laptop.

Another laptop sits on my legs right now. But if CoreTemp readings are right, I should have 3rd degree burns....

Here's what Core Temp 0.99.7 reports:

Select CPU: Processor #0 2 Core(s)
Processor Information
Model: Mobile Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 (Merom)
Platform: Socket M (479-pin)
Frequency: 2162.58MHz (166.35 x 13.0)
VID: 1.1875v Clock Modulation:
Revision: B2 Lithography: 65nm
CPUID: 0x6F6

Processor #0: Temperature Readings

Tj. Max: 212°F Low High Load
Core #0: 199°F 181°F 199°F 100%
Core #1: 199°F 181°F 199°F 100%

Let me know if you need additional info.

I am not sure why this was posted in the Bugs section - moved to Discussion.

Core temperatures are usually pretty accurate, especially on the upper range of the scale.
Your laptop may be just doing a good job of insulating your lap from the processor's heat, but your CPU is running pretty hot.

I guess you need it spelled out. CoreTemp is reporting incorrectly, both Celsius and Fahrenheit.

As such the report is properly posted under bug.

if you don't believe it, take off your laptop cover, touch the heatsink i bet you it will be burning out... plastic acts an insulator therefore, the perceived hotness will feel less. You could try other software such as hwmonitor and speed fan which report temperatures through your motherboard, i bet you they will be similar

Either way. Core Temp works the same as many other thermal monitor applications out there. It shows you what it reads from the processor, nothing more and nothing less.
There are two possible scenarios;
1) Your processor IS running that hot.
2) Your processor is not reporting correct temperature to the monitoring software.

Judging by the track record of these sensors, I'd say that the second option is less plausible, but you can believe whatever your wish.

Thanks for the quick heads up. You guys are cool as opposed to the notebook in question. For the record we're talking about a Dell XPS M1330 [32bit].

Do all 64 bit CPUs run cooler or just some?

And BTW, thanks again for the nice tool.
