Dual Boot Core Temp Discrepancy

Hi, my first post here!
I have a dual boot system, with Windows XP SP3 32 bit and Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit.
It is also a dual processor system, with two x5460 quad core Intel Xeons.
I have the latest version of Core Temp (1.4.1) installed (separately) on both operating systems.
On Windows XP, Core Temp reports the temperatures of the cores of the two processors as being roughly equal, as I would expect, but on Windows 8.1, one processor's temperatures are always around 10 degrees C more than the other.
How can that be, on the same hardware?!
:?

That's interesting. I don't think I have an explanation except maybe in Windows 8.1, for whatever reason, the 'hot' processor isn't going into a low enough C-state. It could be something to do with a driver or something else causing this.
It'd be interesting to see a comparison screenshot.

Thanks for the response!
Unfortunately it's taken so long for my original post to be approved and to appear, that since then I think the problem may have gone away, as I completely re-seated my CPUs and re-did the thermal compound and heatsinks as I was worrying about overheating, and since then the problem seems to have corrected itself!
Both CPUs are now running much cooler and seem to be much more evenly balanced in temperature, on both operating systems, so I guess I had used too little (or too much) thermal compound before.
I'll keep an eye on things and report back if I still think there is an issue.
I guess we'll never know now why there seemed to be a discrepancy between the Core Temp reporting on the two operating systems.
Cheers,
Dave.
