Question on malware/adware?

Post by Naki »

Does the current version have optional (or mandatory?) malware/adware in it? Looking at the installer screens, seems it finally does not!
Older versions such as RC6 had this and many websites were thus not recommending using Core Temp, or simply did not list it as a possible option at all.
Please can you confirm when this was removed, and why?
I assume you need(ed) the money from adware for future development of the program, yes?

Also, please can you tell us which Core Temp versions have the malware/adware, and which not?

Thanks in advance for your reply!

Since RC8 the installer has been clean of any 3rd party offers.
It was removed due to user dissatisfaction, and because the offers might have not worked correctly and installed things the user didn't opt in. Another important reason was google and other providers began to blacklist websites hosting programs which use this sort of monetatization.

Core Temp doesn't have any more adware, the only thing changed is a partnership with Driver Agent. A user can click a link on the UI which will take him to the DA page where they can decide whether they want to purchase the software or not. Many hardware monitoring and information applications implement this as well.

Great, thanks, this helps! :)

Core Temp seems to have been listed here previously:
14 Best Free CPU Temperature Monitor Software For Windows
http://listoffreeware.com/best-free-cpu ... e-windows/
but was then removed due to the malware/adware issues.

I hope we can get them to add it back - they deleted some of my comments on this, however. :? Seems this Indian (?) guy is not much cooperative on this. ;(

"Something" is still part of the installer. By default the installer wants to add an icon on my desktop to "Build your kingdom with Goodgame Empire. Start the game from the icon on your desktop." No further explanation is offered on mouseover or otherwise. Does leaving this checked mean software will be installed on my computer (the text sure suggests as much, saying the link will "start" my game)? Maybe it's just creating a link to a site, but there's no way I can know. I understand the need to make money off your work and hosting costs, but I wish there was more transparency so I can make an actual informed decision.

This option only creates a shortcut URL to the Emipe website on your desktop, and places an icon file (*.ico) in Core Temp's folder, for the shortcut.
It does not install any 3rd party stuff on your system.

Good to hear, strange that it gets flagged as malware then.
