TDP field greyed out on 1.0 RC6

Post by mjurban »

I have a system which is several years old, with a Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor. The "Modulation" and "TDP" fields are greyed out, and the instantaneous power dissipation field (directly under Tj. Max) is not there at all. I have a new system, with an I7 4770K processor, and the TDP shows correctly as 84 Watts, and the instantaneous power dissipation field is present and active. The "modulation" field is still greyed out.

All the other data looks accurate for both systems. Is there something about the Core 2 Quad series that disables the TDP and power dissipation functions?

thanks
Mike

The TDP/Power features are not available on Q6600 (Core 2) generation of CPUs, this information is read directly from the processor in the newer Core i series.
That's is the reason for these fields being inactive on your Q6600 system.

When modulation is enabled, Core Temp will display the setting. It's a special power saving feature which allows setting the processor to work at a duty cycle lower than 100% instead of dropping the actual clock speed itself.
