Tj max is too high?

Hey all, I'm new to the forum, but have used core temp for a while.

I changed mobo recently, and noticed my tj as had jumped, on my old mobo it was 70c which is the max for my cpu, now my new mobo says its 90, what's happend? Is this affecting my cpu temp read out?, as I also changed thermal paste from the stock junk, to artic silver 5.

My temps went from usual 60c in gw2 down to 50c in gw2, could the temp readout be caused by an issue with tj max, or is this actually the readout of my temps and is correct showing that arctic silver 5 actually dropped my temps by 10c, thanks.

TjMax should not change based on the mobo. TjMax is the CPU theoretical max operating temp before throttling occurs.

FWIW, Arctic Silver 5 (or any of the top 25+ TIMs which are very similar in performance), is good but it usually doesn't result in a 10C drop unless the prior TIM was the really bad, old, cheap, white TIM. Poor heatsink contact or dried out TIM can cause excessive temps. The TjMax would have no impact on the "Core Temp" readings.

Then I'm confused beyond belief.

The original tim was from the manufacturer on the stock hs and according to core temp, has droppedy temps 10c.

And with the tj max, it defiantly changed with the mobo, and that's confusing.

Did you replace only the motherboard or did you get a new CPU as well?

Only the motherboard, the cpu has been the same since early this year.

I'm not sure what to say. The TjMax is read from the processors registers. It's possible the new motherboard has a new microcode update which changes the TjMax value.

Would clearing the CMOS change anything?, I know the max temp of my cpu is only 70, so I'm sticking to keeping my temps at about 50 - 52 ish.

Clearing the CMOS isn't likely to change anything. You might want to contact the mobo maker and explain the situation. They might have a BIOS CPU look-up table error that is mis-identifying the CPU model and thus causing Core Temp to list the TjMax based off of a different model CPU?

I will defiantly try that, though in core temp it's registering my cpu as the correct one, I know that the tj max isn't really an issue, I was more concerned as to if it could affect my temp readout as I thought 10c drop in temps was a bit too good to be true.

A 10C drop is exceptional even for AC 5, that's why I outlined some possible causes. The TjMax indicated temp would not have any effect on the Core Temp readings though.

On my old mobo it was 70c which is the max for my cpu.
