Remote Server

Post by emueyes »

Hi all

I've just installed Core Temp 1.0 RC4 on a couple of Win7 machines. I found the Remote Server, thinking that one machine could monitor the other (handy, the monitored machine would be the HTPC) but now think that it doesn't work that way. Is Remote Server meant only for the Android monitor? (I did do a bit of searching before asking such a daft question, sorry.)

Great job too, I love the ease of access to the served data, and also if one instance of CoreTemp can't monitor another then it looks like the VCTemp addon will.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The remote server is a plugin which allows other computers to connect to it and receive Core Temp's data from the system.
Right now the only thing which can connect remotely is indeed the Android app. I've thought about creating a sidebar gadget with similar abilities, but since MS has discontinued support for gadgets I'm now planning on developing a Win8 Metro app with this ability.
A Windows Phone app (similar to the Android one) is in the pipeline as well.

Thanks for the welcome, and for the great software.

Microsoft discontinuing gadget support is pretty irritating, though I still use a sidebar clock regardless.

I'm just getting into uC circuits, a little desktop Android box (matchbox, really) with an LCD on it is very inexpensive and would make a great little desktop monitor for this.

I agree, another interesting option would be a 'netduino' which is basically like an arduino, only it works with .Net. Support for .Net would make creating a client for it a breeze.

That would be a much better option, most of the Android boards output HDMI, whereas a netduino will drive a smaller display like a 2" TFT and be even less expensive. It's not as generic as, say, an Android client, but could potentially get a lot more use, as a permanent desk fixture, or even built into the case.
