QX6850 Tjmax

Post by zebidybob »

Hi,
The Tj max in Core Temp is shown as 100°C Intel has said the Tj max of the QX68xx series as 80°C

Core Temp also Shows 10°C hotter than Everest

What is the correct Tj max for the QX6850 and how would I change the Tj max to be in line with Intel?

Thank you in advance

As you can see, 10C hotter with a 100C TjMax means that Everest uses 90C, which is still more than Intel's claim.
This doc has been deemed inaccurate a long time ago, and so TjMax continued to be guesswork.
In my experience 100C TjMax was the best way to get accurate readings from the DTS in the majority of chips tested.
If you want, you can adjust the temperature by going to Options --> Adjust temperature offset.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.

I use an Asus Silent Square EVO and it knocked 20°C off the max temp using Everest (73 down to 53) Does that mean using a Tjmax 0f 100°C would mean it used to run too hot? or very close (Using stock cooler)

Sorry to be a noob but does using the offset change the critical temp warning?

I only want to know the correct Tjmax for overclocking / Folding@Home.

Thanks

Zeb

It's usually recommended to have the temp 20C or more below TjMax, so yeah running only 17C below (90 - 73 = 17) is a bit pushing it. But current temp of 53C (37c to tjmax) should be fine.

Everest is obsolete and dead now!
The program name is AIDA64 now. Try that please, and if that shows the same values, post back...

Hi Naki,

Thanks for the reply I have installed the AIDA64 Extreme Edition trial, please see attached.

Under load

p.s please don't take any notice of the max temp in CoreTemp as I was playing around.

Thanks in advance

I've already posted the reason for the temperature discrepancy between the applications, I don't think there's anything left to add.
AIDA64 uses 90C as the reference while Core Temp uses 100C.

Sorry The Coolest, Naki asked me to reply so I did.
I have asked IntelUK for the correct Tj max value they said "apologies for the delayed reply. We'll look in to this and get back to you. Many thanks" that was on the 23rd of last month, maybe they will get back to me but I don't have much hope.
