Thanks for the RC4 update, working fine for me.
When I read that there were some performance/overhead improvements, I took a look at core temp process in task manager.
Even though I have core temp polling interval set to 3000ms, taskman shows core temp producing at least 12 "I/O other" operations every half second.
I would hope that 3000ms polling interval would mean core temp would be completely idle for 3000ms and then wake up, poll the processors, update the display, then sleep for another 3000ms.
Is there any way to keep core temp truly idle between polling intervals?
Thx.

Re: core temp process busy between polling intervals
What CPU do you have?
Core Temp has background threads which run at a 500ms intervals on each available thread. These procedures are very short, and should have a negligible effect on CPU time. Also as these are background threads, they do not update the UI, only a few internal variables.
The UI is only updated every 3000ms as you configured.

Re: core temp process busy between polling intervals
Clarkdale.
Even if the procedures are short and don't take much CPU time, they still push foreground process data out of L1 and L2 cache or result in less C6/C7 idle state time.
If the UI only updates every 3000ms, what is the point of collecting information at 500ms resolution? Is that information just thrown away?
Thx.

This information is used to accurately calculate the processors frequency.

Re: core temp process busy between polling intervals
That makes sense, but since I'm not displaying the frequency or load (while minimized), only displaying the temperature, it is essentially wasted effort.
Sorry if it sounds like I'm complaining -- compared to most apps and utilities I've seen, core temp is very very low overhead.
I know most users want more bells and whistles, while I'm in the minority wanting simplicity with minimal overhead.
Thanks for core temp, and keeping it up to date.

Re: core temp process busy between polling intervals
It's needed for the shared memory, where the data can be accessed by 3rd party applications.
The simplest example is the Core Temp gadget. Even if Core Temp is minimized I believe the gadget users would prefer if the gadget was still showing correct values.
You can also configure Core Temp to display the highest frequency in the system tray as well if you want.
