T5300 Tjmax?

Post by abccba »

According to the available info from Intel (http://ark.intel.com/products/29758/Int ... 33-MHz-FSB) Tjunction for T5300 (Merom, 65 nm) is 100°C.
Monitoring software like RealTemp, NHC, CPUID Hardware Monitor and coretemp in Linux uses Tjmax 100°C - but Core Temp uses Tjmax 85°C.

Core Temp's temp reading is more or less identical to what the laptop's ACPI reports, but I don't know if the ACPI "Thermal Zone" reading comes from the DTS or from a sensor in the CPU socket...? I guess a socket sensor could read about 15°C lower than the CPU cores - but then Core Temp's Tjmax would be set too low for my CPU.

From reading previous forum posts, I know that Intel's (at least previously) reported Tjunction temperatures for the 65 nm CPUs were doubted and that Core Temp uses its own empirical values. I don't know whether Intel's Tjunction value for my T5300 are among those making "very little sense" or if it's published later...

This 15°C difference will determine if I will have to alter the fan activation or not.
Is Core Temp right (which I hope!) and all others wrong? :)
I'd be very grateful for help!

Core Temp should be right. The TjMax may vary between chips. Some have 100c and some have 85c tjmax. There is a register in the CPU to determine which one it is, and Core Temp uses it.
