Time interval between Hi & Lo temp readings

Post by peterlonz »

Typically I see my CPU (Intel i7 Quad core) cores with an even low temp of about 36 to 40 C.
The Hi readings are typically about 66 C.
The Hi readings appear rather high in an ambient room temp of about 25 C, & having regard to my CPU load readings which are almost permanently below 10%.
So my questions are:
1) How do in know if an offset adjustment is needed?
2) I do not often turn off my PC ( basically a lazy habit) so I do not know what the time interval between highs & lows is. This seems important because the highs may be only for activity over a few minutes in weeks (although the same could be said of the lows I guess). Surely if this info is not known the overall thermal risk problem cannot be assessed?
I'd appreciate informed advice.
Thanks

Depending on the specific i7 model and cooler you have those temps may be in line with where they should be.
My CPU usually runs at 40-45c idle and over 80C when it's fully loaded.
The 'High' reading shows you the highest temperature a core has reached over the period at which the program was running.
The 'Low' reading displays the lowest temperature recorded by Core Temp.
There are no intervals between them, everything depends on your activity and what your system is doing at any given moment.

In short, depending on the CPU and cooler, the temperatures that you see are probably just fine.
