CPU reached 99c for a while

Post by selvan777 »

Can someone please help me see why and perhaps help prevent this from happening again?
In the log from about 12/17/2011 0:04, it was left idling from about 11pm, not sure.
CT-Log 2011-12-16 19-08-00.csv
Acer Aspire 5251-1513
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1
AMD N660 Dual core 3GHz (upgraded from AMD V120 Single core a few day ago and never paid attention to temp then)
8GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz

Thanks
P.S. I don't know why the 2nd CPU isn't in the log.

What I mean is if you can give me instructions/tools needed to monitor my system in more detail so as to perhaps see what was going on at that time or something to pin point a possible culprit.

Well, it seems like the CPU is running very hot when it's under full load - notice the load column.
You would probably have to run task manager and watch for processes that eat up a lot of CPU time and then see if you can disable them or find some solution.

Thanks for the reply. I did view event logs and only saw that it was the browser (Firefox). Anyway, I've since changed my power profile to Balanced and it hasn't happened again. But I am keeping my eye on things and checking the logs, so far so good. This is all coming about from a processor upgrade on my Aspire 5152, from the AMD V120 to N660. So far so good.
