0.99.8 64 bit on Win 7 64: How to hide systray icon?

Post by mikehd »

Hi,

I use the Core Temp gadget and would like to keep my systray uncluttered. How can I keep CT running to support the gadget without having the systray icon?

thanks!

You can't completely hide the icon, as that will make it impossible to bring Core Temp back up if it is minimized to the system tray.
You can set it to only display one single static icon, though to minimize clutter.
Of course you can also configure Windows to hide Core Temp's icon for you.

Hmm, seems like the .7 version had some ability or method to maybe install CT as a service? Again, I love the info it provides but prefer to see it in the Core Temp sidebar gadget. I don't use the CT gui after the initial install.

For now I'll just ignore it in the systray.

There has never been an option to run or install Core Temp as a service.

I would also like this feature. Your argument, that you cant bring the program to the front is not really true, you can still just open it again to see it...
Or otherwise, you could kill it by using the task manager.
I want to use CoreTemp to enable Rainmeter do display the CPU temperature and i dont want another icon in my notification area...

I can understand the reasoning behind wanting to remove or hide the icon completely, but for many users it may be confusing.
At this time such an option is not planned. Maybe sometime in the future. In every recent Windows version (XP, Vista, 7) you can hide system tray icons, so you don't have to see them all the time, but only when you expand the hidden icons popup.

It would not be confusing, as it of course shouldnt be the standard setting.
A user who sets this option would not be confused, because he/she would get the expected behavior...
Of course you can hide icons since WinXP, but this causes another icon to be shown, which is counterproductive.
