Overheat protection Execute program does not work

Post by boink10 »

Hi,

am using coretemp to stop my system from overheating by running a script which limits clock speed when a certain temp is reached.

This works exactly once, then the script is not started although baloon popup and flash coretemp are triggered correctly.

The options are set as described, also see screenshot.

Please help, coretemp is my last hope for my sick system!!

Actually, this was "by design". I may implement an option to choose whether to execute once or every time overheating occurs.
Main rig:
AMD Ryzen 9 5950X (True Spirit 140 Direct) / Mobo: Asrock Fatal1ty X470 / EVO 970 500GB + WD Blue 250GB + HDD / GPU: Dell RX 570 4GB / Mem: 2x16GB DDR4-3200 G.Skill 32GTZKW TridentZ - 32GB total / PSU: Seasonic Prime Ultra Gold 650W
NAS:
Core i7 2600K 3.4GHz @ 4.3GHz (Scythe Mugen2) / Mobo: Biostar TP67XE / 2x Inland Pro 120GB + HDDs / GPU: ATi Mach64 VT2 / Mem: 4x4GB DDR3-1600 G.Skill 8GBXL RipJawsX - 16GB total / PSU: Seasonic S12II 620W.
Secondary rigs:
Core i3 7130U / MiniPC / SanDisk SDSSDP-128G / GPU: Intel HD 620 / Mem: 1x8GB DDR3L-1600
Xeon X3430 2.40GHz @ 3.06GHz or Core i3 540 3.06GHz @ 4.0GHz (Freezer 7 Pro) / Mobo: MSI H55M-ED55 / PNY CS1111 240GB / GPU: ATI FirePro V3800 / Mem: 4x2GB DDR3-1600 G.Skill 4GBRL RipJaws - 8GB total / PSU: Seasonic S12II 620W
AMD Phenom II X4 B93 / Mobo: ASUS M2A-VM / GPU: ATI Radeon Xpress X1250 / Crucial M4 120GB / Mem: 2x2GB DDR2-800 - 4GB total / PSU: Antec 380W.

Please seriously consider this.

Reducing cpu speed via batch is a very practical solution and it surely beats shutting down the system. And restarting coretemp after each batchfile run is a crude workaround.

That would imply defining a time of irresponsiveness after starting the external program so multiple concurrent execution is prevented.

Actually I am mystified why I couldn't find any other posts discussing this kind of solution, that is reducing clock speed in response to overheating. Seems the most natural thing to me and since Vista it's easy to accomplish via batch file.

I had the same problem with a program execution.
I want to play an *.mp3 file upon overheating. every time it occurs

Done. In the next release you will be able to uncheck an "Execute once" checkbox, to make Core Temp execute the app every time an overheat occurs.

I am well aware this thread is almost four years old, but does anyone know where i can get the batch file shown in the screenshot in the first picture? I have an Acer V3-571G gaming notebook which overheats to 101 degrees Celsius when playing games such as GTA IV on low graphics settings. To prevent damage to my laptop, i have set CoreTemp's overheat protection to 99 degrees, but it gets really annoying because my laptop keeps switching off now. This batch file could help me by underclocking the processor rather than switching off the laptop to reduce the temperature.

Tomorrow i plan to dismantle my laptop and clean the fan, but i don't suppose it will make a significant difference.

If anyone knows the batch file used in the original post, please let me know.

Thanks. :)
