i7 960 core temps incorrect?

Post by Hawk747 »

I'm using Core Temp 0.99.5 and comparing it with the Asus program for the motherboard (PC Probe II). The first thing that I noticed was that the processor is listed incorrectly in Core Temp. It is showing an i7 965 XE while what I have is an i7 960 @ 3.2 GHz. PC Probe II only lists one temp for the CPU and it shows only slightly higher than Core Temp. I hope to be able to attach a jpg file showing the two programs running side by side.
I really like Core Temp better, especially the ability to view the core temps on the task bar. I just want to be sure I'm not relying on temps that are lower than what is really occuring. I'm planning on overclocking the system but waiting for the CPU water cooler to settle in.
I hope you can tell me that the next update will include the latest CPUs and that the temps at the thermal junctions are accurate. Thanks,
Mike

Temperature readings on Nehalems works fine in this release, even if it doesn't ID the processor correctly.
You can rely on the temperature it provides.
Regarding the CPU name, it's going to be fixed in the upcoming release.
