Core 2 Duo Always Shows 57 & 42 Degree Temps

Post by amycjgrace »

I've used Core Temp forever on numerous PCs, and this is the first issue I've ever encountered. My system has an Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 (Wolfdale-3M) with Windows 7 64 bit home premium. I am using the 64 bit version of Core Temp, and my readings stay at 57 (Core 0) and 42 (Core 1) degrees always. Another program, Piriform Speccy, Shows the same phenomena. I'm not sure where the issue might be here. In bios, the temps seem perfectly fine (at about 32 degrees) and they fluctuate, but within Windows, the temps stay steady at 42 and 57. Any thoughts on this?

Sounds like a "sticky sensors" issue to me.
Many 45nm Core 2 CPUs suffer from it. Basically what it means is that a sensor will not register a temperature lower than a certain value.
This occurs in all DTS, but on the 45nm Core2 based processors it usually happens much more often, and at much higher temperatures.
Try to run IntelBurnTest for a few minutes and see if the temperature of the cores starts to climb, if it does, then the sensors in your CPU simply can't register temperatures any lower than what you see.
