Possible incorrect VID

Post by Chike »

Hi,

In user's screen capture Core Temp reports VID 1.15v, however BIOS default and CPU-Z Max VID(confirmed in post #15) are both 1.225v.

There is another suspect in this post, but no confirmation for CPU-Z report.

Core Temp reports the CPU VID, not actual core voltage. The VID value, when SpeedStep is enabled is used to signal the motherboard what voltage the processor requires at a given moment.
If you also look at the screenshot in your post, you'll notice that CPU-z, which does report the actual VCore of your CPU reports a similar value to what Core Temp is displaying.

In the screen shot of the second suspect, CoreTemp reports VID 1.1625v and CPU-Z reports 1.424v, not quite similar values.
This was later reported correctly with stock settings in this post.
The question is what do I need to make of all this. Is VID reported by CoreTemp the same as Max VID reported at CPU-Z's registers dump which never changes or is it different?

In short, you can ignore VID.
As I said, it's used to signal the motherboard of what voltage should be applied to the processor. It's lowered when your system is idle.
The fact your board doesn't change it very quickly or not at all doesn't say Core Temp is wrong.
Core Temp can't be used to monitor core voltage.
