Load Report May Be Inaccurate

Post by shaman »

I have an Intel N270 CPU (MSI Wind U90). I used Intel's TAT utility and set 100% CPU load. However, CoreTemp 32bit v0.99.5 indicated 50-53% load. I'm pretty sure TAT is correct.

The problem may be that Atom has 1 core but reports 2 virtual cores. This may confuse CoreTemp into thinking that only 1 core is fully busy and the other one is idle and reports half the true load.

Core Temp only shows you physical cores. When a processor supports HT the load shown by Core Temp will show the average between the threads.
So when Thread #0 is at 100% and Thread #1 is at around 0%, Core Temp will show you around 50%. When you load both cores, you'll see 100% in Core Temp.

I am pretty sure that that is not the right way to report the CPU load. Just because it is split into 2 logical cores does not mean that if logical core 1 is at 100% and core 2 is at 0%, that the physical core is at 50%. The physical core can and often (for heavy single threaded applications) be used by just one logical core 100%. Please change the way that this is done because this application is great from the system tray abilities to the logging to the logitech keyboard LCD display (ps thnx for including the functionality of the program AND the time. I always find myself bouncing between what I am using and the time on the LCD), but it would be nice to not have to multiply the reported loads by 2 in my head to know what my actual CPU load is.
