core 0 is critical during boot

Post by seiran »

Hi there

some times when i startup my pc.
in windows 7 64 bit i get core 0 is critical (!) <core temp auto startup>

but my temp is below 40*c max tj is 70* in core temp but amd factory tj max is 73*c
and when i am in windows desktop it drops quickly to 31*c or lower depents on room temp
so it's not even getting close to the 70 *c this counts for the core and cpu temp!
i run also at the same time speedfan during startup. <same readings als core temp>
core or cpu is not even close to the 70 *c it stay's all ways below 50*c

now the problem is that core 0 is critical warning is not every time i start my pc up.
most of the times its doing this when i had my pc turned off like during the night.
so its off time is most of the times 8 hours or more.

and when i got my warning, if i reboot again its gone.
other programs's don't give me this warning at all

now when i typing this i also watching formula 1 on my pc <live stream>
and my core temp is 26*c and cpu is 35/36*c rpm of cpu cooler 3300 rmp (no my cpu cooler is not loud at all only at 4500 rpm)
but why gives Core temp warnings.. during boot
and all other program´s not like speedfan or aida64.

so i think its a faulty in core temp
because i only get tis warning after windows 7 64 bit is just loaded in and user ready.
not with stress test even after 1 hour full cpu use or gaming

i have a amd phenom ii x3 720 black edition.
a cooler with rpm range from 2300 to 4500 rpm
and my case is a skeleton from antec with a 250mm big boy fan running at low speed about 600 rpm.
4 gb of ocz reaper ddr2 with heatsink (2x2)
aus M4n78 pro motherboard max temp 29*c even in dutch hot weather 32*c (high humidity)
a seagate 500 GB barracuda 32mb cach 7200 rpm not hotter then 32*c during hot day's and hours of gaming most of the time 28*c/29*c
a asus engtx460 direct OC 1gb Gddr5 <its cool during games even games like kerbal space program or rapid games like left for dead 2 or GTR2
never gets higher then 45*c at 50% of fanspeed

i don't mind that my pc its a little bit loud during gaming because i allways use headphones
but even when i don't have my headphones on it's not that loud at all.

There is a register in the CPU which Core Temp reads to see if a thermtrip flag has been flipped, if it's flipped, the program displays the 'temp critical' warning.
I'm not sure why it happens in your case, but false readings of that register are possible. The flag also seems to reset after you reboot the machine.
