RC6 reported as malware

Post by Punchcards »

On the FAQ pages, and on the board, it was noted that Core Temp gets reported as malware, possibly because it offers to install optional software.

I just enabled the protection feature on RC4 (this laptop is Vista 64 bit) because I was getting shutdowns (need to open & clean out this unit.) I noticed that afater the laptop is forced into sleep mode by Core Temp, when I wake it, the application is frozen. I have to force close it and restart Core Temp to see the correct temperature. So I went to download RC6.

Norton 360 took exception to it, and quarantined it as high risk as containing "Suspicious Cloud.9" as well as WS.VIRAL.1 It also identified a second file, a362.tmp.
It identifies the full source as http://dl2.iq11download.com/dynamic/sta ... 632790.exe It was a pain in the neck to pull out of quarantine.

Malware Bytes just classifies it a a PUP.

Googling coretemp_d7632790.exe gives a plethora of hits with various categories of AV identifying this file as malware.

This is a very useful program, so I would suggest that the the FAQ AND THE DOWNLOAD PAGE be a little more specific about the way standard AVs interact with this download.

Most of those positives simply classifies the installer as a PUP/Adware. The installer does not contain viruses.

Hi. Many people give reports of suspicious.cloud.9 Trojan virus. It could mess up or even damage your system if it stays long in your OS. Hence to avoid unwanted troubles, please remove it as fast as possible. Here is a useful and free post: *URL removed*

Looks like a nice way to advertise your page, link removed.
Just for clarification, I'm not sure where you saw many people reporting anything related to cloud.9 positives.
Either way, here's the link to the Symantec website explaining what suspicious.cloud.9 even is: http://www.symantec.com/security_respon ... 14-5723-99
