Same issue for me, however it does seem to be related to some sort of overclock setting as I was running fine on Haswell before I tweaked some power saving features. It appears to be crashing when trying to read some parameter on launch. I can probably pin point what setting is causing it...
RC5 works but does not display and cpu details other than temps.
Willing to try RC7 as well.

Sudden and Violent Freeze Upon Starting RC6 on Windows 8.1

Post by tpr11 »

Hello,

I am a longtime CoreTemp user who just reinstalled Windows 8.1. I have double and triple checked that all of my drivers are up-to-date, and I cannot for the life of me figure out what is different. I have ensured that CoreTemp is run as administrator, and have even attempted to run it in various compatibility modes, all with no success.

The only difference between my current installation and my last is that my previous install was originally Windows 8, and upgraded to Windows 8.1 This current install was just straight Windows 8.1

The freezes are horrific in that they manifest as a full Windows GUI freeze. Some menus and windows are briefly movable, but quickly become unresponsive if you try to interact with them. This is SOMETIMES accompanied by a Windows event notification stating that "the nVidia display driver has failed and has recovered".

I play numerous demanding games such as BF4 with no problems whatsoever, and have used this same overclock for over a year. My computer was on this past week for 5 days straight with no issues whatsoever, and I have verified from a 24-hour prime95 session that I am indeed stable. I'm really at a loss here, I have NEVER seen something just stop Windows 8/Windows 8.1 in its tracks like this, and I've been on this OS since the day it was released.

thank you for your time and any help.

System Specifications:
Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit
Intel Core i5 2500k 4.5GHz
Hyper 212 EVO cooler
Intel DP67BGB3 Motherboard
4x4GB G.Skill DDR3-1600 RAM
nVidia GeForce GTX 670 GPU
Crucial M4 128gb SSD
SeaSonic 620-watt PSU

I'm also experiencing this issue on Windows 8.1 x64. However, possibly unlike most users here, my system (work PC) is using the CPU's built-in graphics, i.e. no discrete graphics card. So it doesn't seem to be related to GPU and/or drivers.

I've rolled back to RC 5 for now, which works fine, but would appreciate getting the RC 7 build.

I am running windows 8.1 64bit and I ran into the same problem.
I couldn't click anything while running RC6, the entire system seemed to have froze, but I could move the mouse, and right click.

I would like the link to RC7, I have been using core temp now for several years. It was unexpected for it to mess up like that.

Core Temp 1.0 RC6 - Causes PC to stop loading

Post by Jackamus »

I am been using this program for years and years. I love all the features. But with Windows 8.1 Update 1 it has stopped working correctly and that is mainly during boot up. I've used the 1.0 RC6 that closed the PC to lock up upon getting to the desktop the icons would come up for the temps, they would be blank and stop. I had to do a reboot, just a simple reset and then boot again and then they load. I went back to 1.0 RC5 and it did the same thing. So, finally after a few weeks of trying different things and getting tired of the lockups, I had to uninstall it.

I look forward to a new release so I can begin you using this software again.

Thank You! :D

Windows 8.1 Pro huge issue

Post by Sergy »

Hello, this is my first post here.

I just wanted to tell you there is a huge compatibility issue with Core Temp on Windows 8.1 Pro, I have installed it a couple of times and always generates glitches and lag on the system, I had to enter in Safe Mode just to being able of uninstall it, cause it even mess with Explorer and wouldn't let me use Control Panel.

I do apologize for the delay, but the current IRL situation is causing the delay in getting the next version out the door.
I intend on getting it done in the near future.
