APU - A8 3870K - Incorrect readings '4c'

Post by AustinJerry »

When idling, my CPU temperature shows 4 degress celsius. This seems low, doesn't it? My stats:

Motherboard: MSI A75A-G55 (MS-7695)
Chipset: K12 bridge (Southbridge A55/A60M)
BIOS: American Megatrends V1.5
APU: AMD A8-3870 Quad 3GHz (Not overclocked)
CPU Cooler: Scythe MUGEN-2

APU - A8 3870K - Incorrect readings '4c'

Post by DeanV255 »

Hi, just installed a new motherboard and APU today mention above.

Installed Core Temp to see what my temps were to see what kind of overclocking i may get out of the CPU to make up for the CPU power loss from going from a Phenom II 965BE to the A8 3870K. Sadly, im sure you know of the problems with these somewhat fiddly APU's but my temps range from 3c minimum and around the 10c's and lower area. Evidently this i not true and a trip to the Bios revealed CPU temps of 34c to 38c.

Just want to let you know this problem with the Liano APU's so hopefuly it can be fixed in a later update and i can overclock my APU :) Cheers, does going back to past Core Temp verstion help me in anyway? Im in no rush to overclock though :)

Here's a link as proof:

This is a brand new just installed mobo and APU so im hoping those 34c - 38c temps drop once the Silver 5 Thermal paste has broken in :)
Final thanks to the creator of Core Temp :) just sorry i cant do it more justice with a better CPU/APU.

Unfortunately I don't know what the reason for this strange behavior is.
It probably has something to do with AMD's zero power thing, where power is not fed to the cores, making the process of temperature monitoring inaccurate as it is a result of several measurements across the chip.

RC4 is now available, it fixes recognition problems of BD CPUs and Trinity APUs, fixes the bus speed bug with APUs.
