Wrong Temp displaying?

Post by Hirnsalto »

Hey all ..

I downloaded CoreTemp with AllCPU Meter just like 2 Weeks ago.
Yesterday I started to play an old Game again.
No Spoiler, but it's called RuneScape and is running in a Browserwindow using Java.

Now, my Problem is, I can play Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, Diablo 3 or World of Warcraft hours and hours without the CPU going higher than 70°C at an average of 75% usage.
I know, this is pretty high too, but when I start RuneScape and my CPU starts to hit the 90% usage mark, CoreTemp tells me, that my Cpu's are going to idk .. likely to burn.
So, shortened now ..
Playing ANY Game, Cpu 75% usage, 70°C.
Playing RuneScape (Java), Cpu 90%, 95°C and upwards.
Could you please help me?

Thanks a lot

What CPU do you have?
It makes sense for a 3D accelerated game to heat the processor less than a game/app that has no GPU acceleration, because while in many cases high quality graphics games will in most cases make the CPU wait for the GPU to complete its task, thus requiring less CPU time than games that run on CPU alone.

I should note, that over 90C is really pushing it in regards of processor temperature.

Thanks for your answer.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 @2.33GHz (4 CPUs) ~2.3GHz
That's what dxdiag says.

I really don't know if it's normal of having a 90-95° upwards ..
And I still don't know what I should do ..
I think I just will stop playing that game until I got enough money for a better computer.

I played that game like idk .. 2-3 Years almost nonstop with the same computer.
So .. Idk if it's that hot only in the last week or if it was like that all the time.

The problem is not with your computer.
Maybe the heatsink is full of dust and needs to be cleaned out, or the CPU fan is not working.
90C or more for a desktop CPU is pretty much critical temperature. My recommendation is to fix your cooling, and it should all be fine.
