i5-760 running at 8 GHz

Post by dww »

This shows my PC running at 8 GHz, when doing a multi-threaded database load which uses all 4 cores at close to 100%

This is CoreTemp 1.0 64-bit version running on Windows 7/64 SP1. ASUS P7-P55D-E motherboard.

Pretty good eh? Except that it isn't.
The CPU is really running at 4 GHz. The base clock is indeed 190.47 MHz as shown, but the multiplier is 21 not 42. CPU-ID gets it right, BTW.

CoreTemp only gets the multiplier wrong some of the time. Any idea how to stop it doing this altogether? Is there going to be a new version soon?

Make sure that you update to RC3, and also set Core Temp to Normal priority in task manager if it still occurs with the newer version.

Thanks. But odd - I thought I WAS running 1.0 RC3!
Having downloaded and reinstalled that, I see I wasn't. Now I am running RC3, and so far it's getting the speed right. :D

BTW it's worth clicking More downloads on the CoreTemp page at http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/ then getting just the version you want. The default installer wants to install Yahoo stuff you don't need, (though you can Decline).
