is it possible that uninstalling coretemp turned off my wireless? It is a Bigfoot Killer-N 1103 and after uninstalling coretemp required a network repair after each boot to turn the wireless back on. The alternative is that the antivirus happened to cause the problem at the same time as coretemp was uninstalled - might be possible but seems less likely.
just want my wifi back, so please help.

after working with my rescomp - who seems fairly competent is computer science - we have concluded that coretemp contains a virus - I am now wiping my drive and reinstalling the OS; he observed some behavior that is indicative of a virus.

after some thought, that last post was hasty; just because a master's CS major that writes iphone apps for a living said there is a virus does not mean it has a virus. I submitted the exe to sophos to analyze. I'd like to think coretemp is not bugged and the installer is but I do not know enough to say and therefore must error on the side of safety.
Edit: I asked the rescomp 'exactly what caused ou to believe there is a virus' and he described the Mozilla Master password dialog box - so he is an idiot and I am too for listening to him without further questions. And, now back to why my wireless stopped working.

I've explained to you in the chat that there is no correlation between Core Temp and your network connection. Core Temp has been test by multiple websites and antivirus software, and it was confirmed not to have any viruses. Now, when you install Core Temp and open it, it performs no alterations to your system, the installer simply copies the files onto your drive. When you uninstall, the opposite occurs. There is no logical way or reason that Core Temp could also break your wireless connection.
I'm still not quite sure what the exact problem is, but if all else fails, my recommendation would be to simply uninstall and reinstall your wireless network adapters drivers.

I believe you but why does the current install for coretemp require an internet connection? And, I read your posts about the yahoo stuff so I will not raise it here, but the yahoo home page on every tab I open took forever to find the extension to remove. The wireless got funny - it honestly was at the same time coreTemp was uninstalled. Also, I have been raising this issue with the University IT to check the Andrew File System installer and we tried a BETA, they are certain it was not them - things were acting starnge after uninstalling coretemp and before installing AFS. Same for the Bigfoot Killer driver, I am working with their tech guy and he is sure it is not his driver. Last, I sent the installer to sophos to check and they replied "As per sophos lab, the installer is clean. The coretemp could be the source of your problem. We would recommend you to do try SmarT tool kit regarding to your issue." So, are they implying that there is something in coreTemp but since I did not ask them they did not check? I like coretemp, or I would not bother to write, I'd just be bad mouthing you and reinstalling my OS, but here I am taking the time to figure it out.

You still didn't explain what the original problem with your network is, maybe I can help. You're the first person to bring up this type of issue. Unfortunately I can only repeat what I already said before; Core Temp doesn't make any alterations to your system or its files, so it is highly unlikely that it could have caused some kind of network software/driver glitch when you uninstalled it.

What do you mean by original problem? There was no problem with the wireless before or after I installed coretemp - the problem began after uninstalling coretemp. And, what specifically that problem was, something with the network adapter, it was turned off. A network repair turned the card on but after reboot is was off again.

If your wireless network adapter suddenly turned off "by itself", this can't be caused by Core Temp, just a FYI. There might be another reason for this to happen, I guess, but Core Temp is not it. Also did you resolve it or does this still happen? Is this in a laptop or desktop machine?

Found it, the wireless LAN service was turned off. Is it possible the uninstaller turned off the service? I'd test but just don't have the time. It is a new laptop (Clevo W110ER), all I installed was the OS, mfg's driver CD, the wireless driver, Sophos VirusScan, and coreTemp.

No, this is probably a coincidence, nothing more.
