Core temp shows FX 8120 TDP 27W

Post by nickch79 »

Hi there, i'm new here.
Just wanted to see if anyone has the same issue, not sure if its a coretemp bug though.
I had a custommer that wanted to upgrade to a FX based pc last week.
The specs are:

the new stuff
CPU: FX8120
Motherboard: ASUS M5A99X EVO
RAM: Corsair 16GB DDR3 Vengeance blue 1600MHz
stuff he already had
GPU: Radeon 4870
PSU: Enermax 650W

The system is not working as i was expecting it to.
start up time is more or less the same as his old athlon64 and after startup the machine seems to be very slow. For example you call firefox and it comes up after 15-20 seconds.
Calculator goes about the same to open, catalyst takes more than 20 seconds start.
the second time you try to open something, everything goes as it should(it loads from the RAM though)
I thougth there might be some issue and installed CoreTemp, prime95 and CPUz to have a look at how the hardware seems.
Everything seems fine except something that makes me worry too much. CoreTemp shows TDP of 27W. Is this a glitch from CT or this is a true reading?
Can anyone who has a FX 8120 verify if his/hers system shows the same TDP?

Thanks in advance!
Nick
