Incorrect number of cores

Post by rctaubert »

I have installed Core Temp 64 on my Toshiba Satellite 770 Laptop with Mobile Intel Core i5 2410M (Sandy Bridge) processor. CoreTemp only shows two cores (four threads).

I have read your FAQ and checked the BIOS (no settings for number of cores) and checked MSConfig (box unchecked). Device Manager shows four cores. I have All CPU Meter v3.9 installed and it shows four cores. Everything I know to check shows four cores except for Core Temp.

Any suggestions? Any further questions?

Your CPU has 2 physical cores and 4 threads (as referred to by Core Temp) or 4 logical cores. Other software can't (or doesn't need to) tell the difference whether it's an actual core or a logical one.
Read up on Intel's Hyperthreading if you want to know how this works.
But in essence Core Temp is correct, All CPU Meter isn't... Also check out Core Temp's gadget over here.
