RC2 Crash with RemoteServer Plugin

Post by genscar »

EDIT: Ok this is a mistake from me, it appears that Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 .NET Framework 4.0 is not backwards compatible with applications developed under earlier versions (To the best of my knowledge Windows 7 x64 .NET framework 4.0 is able to work with applications that require earlier versions of .NET Framework). After a bit of stuffing round and finding the right spot in the Role Manager I was able to install version 3.5 and CoreTemp no longer crashes on start up with RemoteServer activated.

Hi there, when attempting to use CoreTemp 64 bit edition on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Enterprise the program works fine, however when you create the plugins folder and attempt to enable CoreTempRemoteServer plugin CoreTemp will then load but instantly crash.

here are the details of the crash.

Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Enterprise
.NET Framework 4.0

RC2 appears to work fine with RemoteServer on Windows 7 x64 Professional. But on Server 2008 R2 it gives a NullReferenceException on CoreTempRemoteServer.
Coretemp runs fine without the RemoteServer plugin files in the plugins/CoreTempRemoteServer folder.

Could this be a .NET Framework 4 problem? Or just not having the correct libraries installed on the server system.

my windows 7 system has an up to date version of Visual Studio.NET 2008 and all libraries that come with it, it also has .NET Compact Framework 3.5 and 2.0 RC2. Windows 7 machine does not have .NET Framework version 4 at all. And Windows Server 2008 box only has version 4 but no other version. I realise the requirements are for version 3.5, but I would have assumed that version 4 would include everything in 3.5 anyway.

From my testing, installing the full .Net 4.0 was enough to get this working, one more option is to enable + install .Net 3.5 in Windows.
