Frequency issue with Phenom II X6 1090T

Post by n_pickles »

I've downloaded and installed CoreTemp v1, very cool tool.

However, I seem to be having an issue with the reported frequency, the multiplier is fine.

I've got an AMD X6 1090T CPU running at stock speed of 3.2Ghz which should be 200Mhz x 16, CoreTemp reports 577.21Mhz x 16. As nice as a 9.2Ghz 6 core CPU would be I suspect mine isn't running quite that fast.

I've attached a screenshot of CoreTemp showing my 9.2Ghz 6 core CPU along with a screenshot from CPU-Z which confirms the correct settings of only 3.2Ghz.

It's attached to a Gigabyte MA790X-UD4 Socket AM2+ mainboard flashed to the latest F7 Bios if that makes any difference.

Any ideas ?

Does this happen every time you start Core Temp or is it a one time bug? Try to press F5 for Core Temp to refresh.

A ha, that corrects it. Now it shows 200 x 16.

Bit weird though because CoreTemp was 'refreshing' in real time to show the CPU 'TurboCore'ing or whatever AMD call it where it boosts a core by increasing the multiplier, if I put some load on it the multiplier changed but the frequency stayed wrong.

I'll check it next time I reboot to see if it is a start up issue or not.
